Live sports viewing on digital channels has definitely been on a rising trend in recent years. eMarketer charts the rise from 32 million viewers in 2019 to 36.5 viewers this year, to an anticipated 48.2 million viewers in 2023.
As a die-hard Vikings and Twins fan, I have been one of those digital live sports viewers. I’ve watched Vikings games on the NFL mobile app, on Twitter, and via Amazon Prime Video.
I watched a Twins intrasquad scrimmage on the Fox Sports North website. That was fascinating because it offered the first taste of what fanless baseball would look like in the wake of the plague.
