Messaging is a reflexive behavior among mobile users. Juniper Research estimates the number of mobile messages sent worldwide in 2012 totaled 14.7 trillion. The research firm forecasts that by 2017, the number will nearly double to 28.2 trillion. Juniper’s estimate includes messages sent via SMS, MMS, IM, email, social media and RCS/RCS-e, which is an internet-based messaging service offered primarily by carriers in Europe to compete with over-the-top (non-carrier-based) instant messaging services. Read the rest at eMarketer.
