Online Activities Conducted During Conference Calls, November 2014 [CHART]

As professionals get distracted by more and more tasks, nearly all of them—98% of Accenture respondents—spend at least part of their workdays multitasking. And what better time to do this than during conference calls when no one’s watching? Fully 80% of respondents admitted to doing so, with work emails the most popular digital activity. More than one-third also fessed up to conducting personal activities such as instant messaging and sending personal emails when on conference calls, and over one-fifth logged on to social media and read news and entertainment.

Crazy days mean workers need the best communication tools to be as efficient as possible. Based on September 2014 research by Pew Research Center, the most important ones were email and internet, cited by 61% and 54% of US employed internet users, respectively. Phones—both traditional and mobile—were less important, at respective rates of 35% and 24%, and social’s role was nearly nonexistent. Read the rest at eMarketer.
