Teen Attitudes Toward Select Online Activities, October 2014 [CHART]

The ubiquity of social media has made the art of oversharing all too simple. Personal details about friends, colleagues and neighbors’ pets are more available than ever before. US teens and young adults seem to agree. Some 81% of internet users between the ages of 13 and 22 feel their peers share too much online, according to an August 2014 survey by Camp Mobile.

Contrary to popular perception, teens don’t necessarily prefer online communication over in-person engagement with friends. Only 15% of 16- to 19-year-olds in the US reported in an October 2014 Northeastern University survey that they preferred to interact with their friends via social media rather than in person. Two-thirds stated they favored face-to-face communication. The majority of US teens also preferred to ask their peers out on dates or end their relationships in person. Read the rest at eMarkter.
