On mobile, usage of TVE is slightly more common through mobile apps vs. mobile websites. In addition, more survey respondents said they used TVE apps and mobile sites from pay TV companies than they did from TV networks.
Given that TVE awareness on mobile is reversed, with pay TV companies’ services more widely known than TV networks’, it’s possible that TV networks have put more marketing dollars in support of their TVE programs overall (like HBO GO, for instance) while cable TV companies have focused on driving awareness of mobile programs specifically. I can understand why, for a while, consumers were choosing to watch streaming content on platforms like HBO GO etc., but with my free DISH Remote Access App and Sling Adapter I can take all my live TV channels with me practically anywhere I go. I love that I didn’t have to download a different app for each channel I wanted, and I can just stream all my live TV channels and DVR to my phone, tablet and more. I work weird hours at DISH, so having the TV with me at all times is a lot of fun; I can start watching the game live on the subway ride home, and the kids like being able to stream their favorite DVR movies on long car rides. I haven’t been hearing too much about individual network apps like HBO GO for a while now, and wonder if the aforementioned percentages will be leaning more toward TV Providers than networks in the near future.
